Circus and side show artist Scott Nelson, who performed as Murrugun the Mystic, has passed away in Escondido, California at the age of 59.
A multi-talented variety performer, Nelson specialized in sword swallowing and fire manipulation. In addition, he simultaneously worked as a rock musician and movie stunt person.
His credits including traveling with the Brothers Grim Sideshow and frequent appearances at theme parks and special events. He was a featured character in the reality television series FREAKSHOW on AMC and was seen in numerous movies and television programs.
Nelson holds the Guinness World record for swallowing a rocket powered sword. That feat also earned him a place in Ripley’s Believe it or Not.
A long time Circus Fan and historian, he produced a widely acclaimed recreation of a traditional circus side show for the Worldwide Circus Summit in Springfield, Massachusetts in 2015.
