Yes, please, meet with fellow Circus Fans in St. Louis for the 2017 convention, June 13-17.

With the release of the Circus Flora schedule and program, details of the convention program previously mentioned in the White Tops can now be put into a daily schedule.  There have been a few changes to the usual routine to accommodate presenters’ schedules but the convention will provide a week of circus and circus related activities plus some things just for FUN. Additionally, St. Louis offers a long list of non-convention attractions which were partially listed in the Nov/Dec 2016 White Tops.

I am proud to announce that our Featured Speaker will be Heidi Herriott, performer, ring-mistress, producer, and noted horse trainer for both the circus ring and show ring. Heidi, her horses, and the “Rhinestone Cowgirls” will be appearing with Circus Flora. As well as a talented performer and trainer, Heidi is an experienced speaker who I am sure will enthrall us with bits of family history, stories from the ring and the back-yard, and insights into her training programs.

We have two wonderful circus programs this year: Circus Flora and Circus Harmony. Circus Flora, in its 32nd year, bridges the gap between traditional and modern forms.  Each year there is a theme into which traditional style acts are woven. This year’s program is called “Time Flies” and “will use the timeless art of circus to explore the fabric of time.” The producers have been secretive about the show’s content but we do know that, in addition to the Herriott displays, the Flying Wallendas, internationally known juggler/mime Adam Kuchler and featured Cirque du Soleil aerialist Sasha Harrington will be performing.

Other names have, so far, been kept under wraps.

St. Louis’s Circus Harmony will have a special presentation just for our convention group. The program is being created by ex-performer and Circus Harmony executive director, Jessica Hentoff. As a youth circus program and circus arts school, we can know Circus Harmony will present a top notch program for us.

Attached you will find copies (as .PDF and .JPG) of the program that, I hope you agree, include an enticing array of activities. And, yes, look closely, there will be elephants!

I invite you to Meet Us in St. Louis this June.

Meet Us in St. Louis

  • CFA’s 2017 Convention “Meet us in St. Louis” will be held June 13-17, 2017 in St. Louis, Missouri.
  • Join us in all the activities being planned for your enlightenment and entertainment. Get to know our host city on a narrated trolley tour of downtown St. Louis.
  • Visit historic Grant’s Farm with an exhibition by their four elephants, and the adventurous may take a ride on a camel, while the less hearty may ride a carousel horse. Oh, did we mention Clydesdales and Budweiser?
  • Attend a performance under the big top by Circus Flora AND, attend a performance by Circus Harmony. Learn how to juggle at a seminar, courtesy of the kids from Circus Harmony.
  • See how costumes are made at Circus Flora. Jackpot with Elizabeth, who at 90 still swings on the trapeze.
  • Spend an evening at the Koo Koo Klub.

All this and that’s just the tip of the “Arch”.

June 13th – 17th, 2017.
